Leftover melted finger. Description supplied by the source: This is another sample of yttrium, except this one was melted from bulk hemispheres also shown on this site. This material was melted into a long finger-shaped mold in order for it to be machined (very carefully!) into a rod. The mold was much longer than this, but this piece did not end up being used, for whatever reason.
