| Mathematica Note
Spikey, as this figure is affectionately known, has undergone a number of revisions over the years, from the simple stellated icosahedron that was the logo for Version 1 of Mathematica in 1988, to the hyperbolic one used in Version 3, to this hyperbolic, perforated, and in my opinion somewhat sickly yellow one that is the logo for Version 5.
This figure, like many others used in Mathematica materials, was created by Michael Trott, who is also responsible for the mathematical functions website operated by Wolfram Research.
